Story of the Carriage

In 2015, we salvaged from Pagham beach an old decommissioned railway carriage, dating back to 1880.

A beach bungalow had been built around the carriage, so it was structurally preserved, but needed internal renovation.

It was a logistical feat getting the carriage into it’s lakeside location.  The lorry got stuck and we called in 2 tele-handlers to help – 5 nail biting hours later, the carriage was in position.

We started the internal works on the carriage.  We used ash from our woods to build the kitchen seating area, as well as the outdoor thunderbox and wood fired shower.
